Bunny Wailer is an old man with nothing left to say. He was finished by the early 1980s in the same way that the Rolling Stones were used up after 'Exile On Main Street' and Love were neutered after 'Forever Changes', while the Beatles had ran out of ideas by the late 1960s, though at least they had the sense to call it a day. Very few artist have longevity. Bob Dylan is a notable exception, he has been making records since the early 1960s and still turns out the occasional good tune, as does Van Morrison, though in my opinion Dylan's best work were the LPs 'Bringing It All Back Home', 'Highway 61 Revisited' 'Blonde On Blonde', 'Blood On The Tracks', 'Desire' and 'Street Legal', the last of these from the 1970s, while Morrison's best solo albums were the first two, 'Astral Weeks' and 'Moondance'.
In reggae, Delroy Wilson, Errol Dunkley, Dennis Brown and a few others made great tunes all their life, though in fact Dunkley too has not made a decent tune for 25 years. Bunny Wailer was always the least creative of the Wailers, though songs like 'Dancing Shoes' 'I Stand Predominate', 'Battering Down Sentence' and 'Rasta Man' stand with the best of the Wailers music.
Who can blame the old geriatric turning out Wailers covers, that is all most people want to hear in any caseMusic is a young man's game, most artists have a mere album in them, if they're lucky.Reel. A common saying about Mendo county is that history starts over every day meaning that there is no accountability or memory and therefore people can make the most outlandish claims and re-inventions, no ones paying attention, which of course is aided by wine and drug culture as well as the hippy dippy ethos, add in new age crap and you basically have an Orwellian nightmare ala dweebs for higher consciousness. It's all pretty absurd and if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at. To the OP and some others saying he rides coat tails.go back and listen to the albums below and tell me this man hasn't been an originator and a true and blessed contributor to the reggae movement. (Blackheart Man, Sings the Wailers, Rootsman Skanking, and Liberation are tops on my list) True, he is getting older now and, as many musicians do, they don't spend as much time in the studio.rather, they are taking time to enjoy the remainder of their lives. People often want to hear the older, original stuff at shows anyway.
I've seen him lose a step or two the last couple of times I saw him, but when I saw him at Snowmass in Aspen in approx. 1992 or 1993, he was as on point as any performer I've ever seen. Bless this man and his positive vibe. Oh, and by the way, I agree with him for giving Snoop @#$%& about being a rasta and claiming he believes he is Bob Marley reincarnated. Yes Jcom, that was the One World Music festival in Aspen, 1994. I have to agree with you, the performance was outstanding and don't forget the 'double rainbow' in the sky (right after Bunny came on)-he later claimed it was Bob and Peter giving us all a 'what's up?' Powerful vibe that day. Also, 2007's performance at Sierra was above average for sure-the man can still bring it, he does have some detractors out deh though for sure.
I mean, wasn't bunny one of first conscious artists to give shitty dancehall a firm dissing-he should be given some cred for that as wellBut I say. Some Never Even Plant yet want to Reap,If you run, be careful, try to look before you leap;Took a little walk from my Vineyard. Now I'm on my ownNow I'm left alone. Bunny & Penny respect due to both of your contributions howevah:Bunny.
Obsessive know-it-all religion = mental illness. (Yabby You commenting on religion gone obsessive)Penny. Obsessive know-it-all atheism = mental illnessOn this April Fools Day. Highly doubtful Mr Reel has caught any of the fine shows Mr Livingstone has done in the past few years-his show @ SNWMF was EXCELLENT, and the two shows I've seen in JA since Bunny's festival set in Boomville were also great retrospectives of his career. On one hand, what Reel has to say about(many) artists having one good LP is true quite often, but it is also TRUE that music is a calling where-unlike athletics- a musical artist in his 7th, 8th, or even 9th decade can create potent examples of his talent. I didn't word that too clear. Those was actually Yabby's words, not a comment on Yabby.
Have edited it more clear & also include previous comments bout Bunny re: Snoop Lion contro:Papa Ray. Nothin gainst Bunny personal. You experienced one good performance but Bunny is erratic these day. VERY ERRATIC & his religious pomposity is obnoxious.Snoop Lion ControBunny - in the day you come out with a crucial song:'Bright soul, bright soul, you reach the River Jordan and you turn back now'Bunny it be good fi remember the original intention of dem lyric otherwize original turn ginnalBunny me was a witness in 1989 when you come to Yabby You and beg help with your frustrations in the music business and the injustice in society. You was crying that your inner-life was painful anxiety. But you rejected Yabby's counseling - then when they bottle you off the Sting stage new-years 1990 you again seek Yabby's advise but all he could say is: 'I told you your problem result from the mental illness of man made religion.
How them fool the people to rule the people'. But you again refuse to listen and Yabby tell you there was nothing more he could do to help until you get ovah your stubborn mentality.Bunny is now 2013 and you still refusing to listen.Next thing - Yabby no say this then. But now, with the benefit of the passage of time mi say this:The ishense is a powerful medicine given to us by the Creator to be used appropriately. For example, aspirin is a medicine derived from willow bark and serves a purpose.
But if the aspirin is used inappropriately it will rot out the liver.Question? Is it appropriate to use the ganj habitually to get irie? Is not the state of irie-ness a thing of personal transformation rather than a habitual use of a medicine that never achieves the irie-ness one seeks? Don't fool yourself. Inebriation is inebriation, so instead of mock the sufferer in the rum bar.
It better to take an honest look at yourself. Otherwise the ganja turn jah-goneTo those with appropriate medicinal need for weed - Carry On. For those stuck in habitual patterns Dr.
Feel Good prescribes a 10 day fast. When Yasus walked this earth one day the apostles ask: 'Master - what about the tradition of fasting - should we be fasting? And Yasus reply: 'Do you fast at a wedding party? There will be time for fasting later.'
Bunny Wailer Biography
This is obviously the later & wi mortals cannot predict the plot - but can it get much later?Bunny wi love ya. Take heed now and every likkle ting gunna be alrightwith love and ispect to all the Ras stillAlex PeacemakerEdited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02:53PM by Peacemakeya. Having seen Jah B 6 times since 1986. Last time was in JA 2009 New Year's Day. Every show has been top quality roots reggae as good as it gets.
And if anyone has the right to talk about Bob & Peter on or off stage, it's Bunny. Having The Wailers Bob/Bunny/Peter, The Heptones/Leroy Sibbles & Gregory Isaacs as my main beginnings in reggae I'm glad I still have two of them that are still with us & I'm able to see live every few years. Yes it would be great if Bunny put out some nice new material, but I still love hearing his solo music from the 70's/80's/early 90's.I can say the same about The English Beat. I still love seeing them live (missed them a few weeks ago here in St.
Louis) & I'm still playing their music from the 70's & 80's. Great stuff while cooking dinner. I have often wished Dave Wakeling/English Beat would put out some new music. If that ever happens, great meanwhile I'm still digging all the old tunes, same with Bunny.Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 08:30PM by AJ. Quote PeacemakeyaPapaken.

VERY ERRATIC & his religious pomposity is obnoxiousAlex PeacemakerDidn't think or get the idea it was anything personal against BW-& again, I caught 3 very fine shows by him from 2007 to now-know what you mean regarding his ability to come off as Jah's Gift to the world, but the worst of that side of him was last seen by me @ a festival performance in Long Beach 10 or so years ago.
